MURCIA HISTORY:

Nearby, in the valley of the river Segura you find the historic city Murcia, capital of the Province Murcia. This city is founded in the year 831 by the Moors and still has preserved a lot of the original history. From the castles and ruins in the surroundings you can learn how Phuniciers, Carthagers, Romans and Moors have fought for this unique area.

In the old city-centre you can dwell through the small streets round the cathedral and the Plaze de Belluga. Also you find in the city many parks, gardens, historic buildings (e.g. the Casino) and theatres. The historic city-centre offers a great choice for shopping in modern boutiques as well as in classique Spanish shops. Tea-time you can enjoy at one of the many nice terraces or restaurants spread all over the city of 360.000 inhabitants. Near the riverside you find the most beautiful part of the city with flower gardens and classique tree parks.

HEALTHY CLIMATE:

Not only you are in a beautiful surrounding, but also you breath fresh sea-wind  and you can swim in clear sea-water. The climate is ideal for both summer enjoyers as winter-shelterers, due to the moderate (Mediterranean Sea climate) summers and winters and 325 sunshine days per year. Especcially the nearby sea helps to moderate the temperatures, while the nearby mountain chain protects against strong land-winds.

The average Mediterranean Sea temperature is suitable for swimming over a long period (the innersea Mar Menor has even an average 5 degree higher water temperature than the sea).

The combination of the dominant and clean sea-breeze, the mild climate and the high number of sunshine hours makes this area a paradise for enjoying life in summer and winter. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has for that reason acknowledged that the Spanish South-East coast is one of the healthiest on earth.

Also the European Communittee (EEC) has several times given a "Bleu Flag" for this coats as an award for the very clean and healthy sea and beaches.

THE COUNTRY:

Not far from the coast you see the mountains from where you have a splendid view over the beautiful valleys, with their sub-tropical nature.

You really should pay a visit to a local bodega with its hudge wine-vessels and delicious tasting local wines.

 THE COAST:

The delighful bay Mar Menor is a unique innersea on the coast. The average water  temperature is approx 5 degrees Celsius above the Mediterranean Sea, which makes it quite enjoyable to swim in over a long period. The softly sloping white beaches are a paradise for young and old.

The mineral and jodium concentration of Mar Menor is also higher than that of the Mediterranean Sea, which has a healing effect on your skin. Also you find "healing earth" along the coast,  which is very enjoyable for people with skin deseases, rheumatic, muscle or arhritis problems.

Specialised  "Health resorts" you find along Mar Menor in  Los Alcázares, Lo Pagan, Santiago de la Ribera, Los Urrutias and in La Manga.

Theme parks

For enthousiast of theme or fun parks you have plenty of choice. A nice trip to nearby  Benidorm and you can see several beautiful parks. The most famous is Terra Mitica (1.000.000 square meters), a kind of Disney park but more focussed on the World history, culture in a nice combination with lots of fun.

For water enthousiasts you find the fantastic waterpark Aqualandia, where you can spend days enjoying yourself in and around the water.
